All of These People
All of These People is Fergal Keane's memoir of staggering power and candour in which he addresses his experience of wars of different kinds, some very public, others acutely personal.
Travel guides
Footprint
Footprint's The South America Handbook, reprinted annually for over 80 years, is regarded by many as the definitive guide book for anyone planning a big trip to South America. Since then the Footprint portfolio has grown to include guides to everywhere from Andalucia to Vietnam, via Surfing in Europe and Walking the Inca Trail. Footprint also publishes a range of city guidebooks and the Traveller's Healthbook.
Lonely Planet
The Lonely Planet story famously began in 1979 when Tony and Maureen Wheeler compiled the first ever South East Asia on a Shoestring guide book at their kitchen table. Twenty five years on Lonely Planet is now the largest publisher of travel books in the world and it has recently published Gap Years for Grown Ups, featuring VSO case studies.
Rough Guides
Rough Guides was born after Mark Ellingham found himself stuck in Greece trying to choose between student guides and the 'heavyweight cultural tomes'. Since then Rough Guides has continued to offer independent travellers balanced, accurate advice which allows for budgeting and the occasional extravagance. It also publishes a wide range of highly-regarded world music CDs.
